Whats the difference

Excuse my ignorance but, whats the main differences between a Standard 1150 GS and the Adventure.

I've had my standard GS for 3 Years and am considering trading in for a new Adventure.

What more will it give me?

About 25mm more suspension travel, larger tank, lower ratio first gear (if you spec it), a lower ratio 6th gear (standard), a one piece (IMO much less comfortable) seat, braided brake lines, different screen (non-adjustable), dark blue anodised wheel rims, blue rocker covers...

That's about it I think.

Main differences are:

Taller suspension (more clearance, harder to get short legs to touch ground etc)
Blue anodised wheels (dont seem to need to clean them much)
Large tank - now standard, was an option (goes further before filling up
Lower 6th gear - not an overdrive like before (higher revs when cruising but more ability to use 6th as a real gear for making progress)
Option for lower 1st gear (for slow riding, going DOWN hills etc)
Single seat unit as standard
Funky but possible weedy aluminium luggage system
Different engine guard I think
Option for fog lights (suggest you add you own though)
Braided brake lines (better stopping)
Bigger windscreen
Handguards as standard
It weighs more (tank and suspension I guess)

And FINALLY - you can still buy a new one - unlike the standard

Will it give you more? Well depends what you want - I love mine and it has more physical "presence" and I like the tank range. Although suspension is higher I doubt it makes it amazingly more useful off-road and is heavier.

It's been a while since I rode a GSA, but if I remember the suspension feels more "plush" than the standard GS. That's the main difference from the saddle (seat height not an issue, I'm a lanky b*gger), the only other impression was the added "prescence" / "attitude" on the GSA. It felt like I was setting off to invade a small country!

The added height on a GS Lite, or the reduced height on an Adv caused by doing this will mean that you'll need to swap the side and centrestands as well...

Can you fit a standard seat to the Adv for extra comfort, and how many extra miles do you get from the large tank.

In order to fit a standard seat, you need to swap the seat carrier and rear rack - not a big job, should take under an hour. The no-cost way of doing this is to find someone who has a GS Lite and wants an Adv seat - zero cost to either of you, plus you get to meet another GSer...

The large tank is 31 litres - 9 more than the standard...
