Hi Peeps, I know I don't frequent this side of the site much, but I am looking to buy Mrs T a 650 and I'm a touch confused. The GS has obvious changes to body style etc, but whats the difference between a funduro and a F650 strada?
Do they do a standard model with a 19 inch front wheel rather than the 21 inch?
Cheers peeps

Main difference on the earlier bikes is the front wheel size (Funduro 19, ST 18) and the ST has narrower bars.

Later bikes (GS's) were fuel injected and came with a 19in front wheel. Later GS's came twin-sparked.

Dakars are taller than GS's, with 12 inch front.

I think Wizard means 21 inches... unless he's referring to the extreme Super Motord version :D

Cheers peeps. Think the standard Funduro sounds like the puppy.

Which one should we go for. Is the GS different enough to warrant the extra cash. We are looking at second hand here, but I've seen some really tidy Funduros for £1800-2000 ish and the GS start at £2500+. Whats the feeling. I want Mrs T to have a bike she can feel a bit of pride when riding (no battered old nails for my dearest!!!). Is it typical BM that prices won't drop now it's winter?
Cheers

Dealers wont drop prices but individuals will. If I were you I would defo go for a GS. The technology on the funduros is dated and the drivability is questionable.

I have ridden the FL model for a while and it feels like a big scooter where as the GS is clearly a bike. Personally I find the Dakar is even better it feels more controlled while banked, some may disagree but hey. Either way they are all perfect for a first big bike.

I got my dakar with 25k on the clock with panniers and autocom for 2500 off of MCN adverts.

enjoy hunting

I also had an FL model before the 650 GS.
I would go private for a late single spark or an 04 twin spark.
Is there any rush to make the purchase ? Does she plan riding throughout the winter ?
If so buy an older funduro as a hack, get good use out of it in the next few months, if she likes it, flog it in spring time and get a newer GS.
If no hurry, then be patient and the right one will come along, 04 twinspark, private, should be down to about the 3K now I would have thought.
Great bikes btw.
Keep an eye on the 650 site
