I have a new 09 GSA and have noticed a purposeful space inside the right hand side of the fuel tank. It is about the size of a tin of baked beans and the same shape. There is also two fixing points either side of it into the tank itself. Does anyone know what it is/was for ?

Also has anyone done this for a long trip and did it work or not ? (tyres are from the Tenere behind)

Charcoal fuel vapour canister on US models with poncy emissions crap overkill fitted. (Save the planet my arse.)

thank christ for that, I thought someone had reset the Matrix for a moment, I had a definate sense of De Ja Vu!

As for the tyres, looks great if you want to find two cicular sets of scratch marks when you get to the other end... mind you, you'd not have to worry about other damage if you dropped it!

I considered a search but could not think what to put in it. "funny hole", "missing parts","dent in tank", yadda yadda yadda....sorry

As for scratches, they are the last of my problems, I need the bike be reliable for a trip to most of the world - now for a Beemer thats a tall order ! :):):)

I located a little canister (actualy a little thermos flask) that fitted in the space perfectly and made a holding stap which bolts in to the existing threaded holes. I use this container to carry loads of bits that I will never ever need! Very reassuring:)
