I've just bought a 650GS, not taken delivery yet, but already i've noticed differences with other bikes....
can any one tell me what the cylindical 'canister' looking device is hanging from the underside of the silver frame of this Dakar (sorry for pinching the pic, but thanks
all the same )
Where as my bike doesn't have said canister
my thoughts are its something to do with the ABS maybe??

The cylinder thing is only available for dakars. On single spark bikes, ones that have ABS, have the pumps thingies placed under the tank and the extra oil for the damper in the cylinder strapped to the side of the frame. If you dont have ABS then the cylinder is strapped where the ABS pumps should be. Dakars also have the voltage regulator placed in a differnt position to normal GS's. This is again due to the extra tank of oil needed for the damper.
