Wheel Options

Bob's yer uncle

G'day all.

I recently sold my 1200ADV(lovely bike just wasn't riding it anymore, the HP is too much fun) so i'm left with only the HP2 Enduro to commute/Play and tour with.

Unfortunately we never got the HP2's with 2 wheelsets here, in fact the dealers didn't even know you could get other wheels. as i tend to do some serious off road when we get dirty so the standard wheelset has a set of michelin Desert's on, incredible tyre off road but an absolute b*tch on the black top.

My question is will a 1200s's wheels fit on the HP? my dealer is unable to give me an answer and is unsure that the wider front wheel will fit, i have found through internet search that the 1200s's rear wheel does fit, can somebody please confirm this.

I have been told that the ADV wheels will fit the HP2, I bloody hope so as it has taken a few weeks to get hold of a pair and I had to buy them one at a time.

The rear is away getting powder coating and the front is waiting for me to collect it from the tyre shop. I might pick it up tomorrow and trying fitting it to confirm what others have said.

Thanks SK1P,

Buying 1200 GS wheels is also a good option, then it's still dual sport, i just really like the motard look.

Front wheel

Ok finally got my act together.

There is always two ways of doing things.......the easy way and of course the hard way!

I somehow managed the later.

I chose a Galfer disc DF702W from Calsport, good guys and fast service (so far so good).

I ordered a disc mounting kit from BMW, as it is an adventure wheel I ordered the kit to suit the adventure (first mistake).

I discovered that the bolts have a different head type and this is important as the dome style clatter into the calipers!

So it is off to get another set of disc bolts.

So does the ADV front rim fit just like that? All i see is the disc as a problem.

I can get a set of adv rims with 50% used anakees including discs for about 520 pounds now. would you recommend it?

The rim just slots in, the fork protector may need a trim back on the other side (without disc side) and you will need to check the disc size but otherwise no problem.

I keep my enduro wheels as a complete set up as it is not difficult doing the change over. I reckon I will get it down to about 10 mins now that I have had a go at it.

The second pic is the wheel in place all torqued up ready to ride.

All that is left is to take if for a ride and will have to wait for the weekend to do that.

Mate that price is very good so I would go for it!

Let me know how you get on.

sk1p - it looks like you've gone with a 300mm disc - on the SM wheels, they use a 320 mm disc for greater stopping power... but that also means you have to remove the pads and caliper to mount the SM wheel. I'm assuming with your set up wheel changes are as simple as removing the axle, dropping the wheel out and putting the other one back in. Correct?

How do you find the brakes? ever feel you don't have enough stopping power? The 320mm disc and 17inch wheel works pretty well, just wondering how much of an effect a smaller disc and bigger wheel has :nenau

You got it in one. It really is easy to change the wheels over with the smaller disc.

I am slightly worried about the front brakes and only time will tell how far I change the front set up, be it suspension or brakes or both.

Still waiting for the rear wheel to arrive before getting it out on the road.

I will let you know what I think, should be this weekend.

Word of warning to all sauce owners, what ever you do DON'T lose or damage your disc bolts!
At £6.80 each!!! You don't want to be replacing them too often!: spitfire
