Hi All

As the new keeper of Jackass Dave's old Road King, I would like to do a bit of fettling.

The rear rim is a bit corroded, and I have the opportunity to get a replacement wheel at a fair price, along with bearings, spindle, disc and tyre. Only issue is that it is off a 2007 Sportster.....

Given that it is the same size (16 x 3 inch (from memory)), would it fit my RK?

I am assuming that because mine is an earlier bike (2001) I will have a 3/4 inch spindle, but that as long as I transferred bearings over, that would be ok, and that the pulley would fit (surely, Harley would keep common mounts between models....). I am also rather hoping that the disc is either the same diameter, or that I could transfer mine onto common mounts?

Any help gratefully received....

Further to that - if anyone has a spare wheel (spoked) or pair of wheels (spoked or alloy is immaterial) in very good condition, suitable for the RK, please let me know?

Cheers

Pete

I stand to be corrected, but no, not from a Sportster.... any Touring model will be fine.... on a Sportster the belt is on the right, on a touring model the left... i feel this may be too much to acheive.....i would not be happy about reversing the wheel direction... IMO..

Not sure

check the web for "swing arm change" - the answers will include all the "what do do with the rear wheel" stuff.

IIRC if you go to 1" axle (and wheel) the rear caliper is different. So if you use a 1" wheel with 3/4" bearings it may not fit to the original caliper.

More research required?

I think it may just be easier to clean up the old rim........!!

Setting to it with fine grade wire wool, WD40 and Autosol; it's begionning to look much improved.....
