Checking the valve clearances I thought that there is quite a bit of burning showing at the exhaust valve. is this normal or should I replace something? (it was looking even a bit worse, had by photo time run my finger over it)

Stem Seals :nenau

Looks ok to me

I know it's a bit sad but you can see how much hotter the exhaust ports run compared to the inlets on my PD so a little extra oil deposit is normal - the hot spots match upto the darker oil areas on your head.

And there I thought they were taken with a poor quality mobile phone camera........:blast

Bob, that thermal image doen't show much heat coming from the oil cooler- are they a waste of space?

I hadn't been riding far or hard when the previous image was taken.

They do work very well once the engine warms up properly. After a good thrash

Handy for looking at brakes and tyres as well

Rear brakes working well

You can see how the heat passes from the contact area through the carrier into the hub. Slight hot spot in one place on the disk outer

I'm in the middle of the winter o/haul and due to time restraints I'm well behind. I was looking to replave the exhaust valves as I dont know how many Killometers mine has done. I rang motorworks to discuss what bits to order and they told me one way to see if the exhaust valve guide was cream crackered was to look for.......evidence of oil burning on the top of the head. I'll check mine this w/end.:blast

this might help sylvester http://jhau.maliwi.de/mot/head.html . also some good videos on youtube if you do a search. I reckon if you are going to trouble of replacing valves you should check the guides for wear as well and replace if needed. In one video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33gSLM2CcpM the mechanic checks the cam followers and finds them pitted so it would seem to me that you might as wel check all is well right down to the surface of the cams.

Took one head off today and I had no burt oil deposits as shown on Newguys bike, so if I were you NG I'd check the valve guide coz mine was buggered:eek:. Managed to get the offending item out so will be on the phone to motorworks tomorrow for replacement bits.
