I will be touring Scottland second half of June and will be in need for new rubbers sooner or later (probably sooner). Coming from Switzerland I am not used to the local rules, and some info would be greatly appreciated:
  • where to get, i.e. at your friendly BMW dealer, or a local tyre company, or ...? - where do you get yours?
  • can I get a pair of rubbers plus fitting on short notice (like call the evening before) or is this a completely insane expectation?
  • what should I expect to pay f/r including fitting and balancing (Tourance, Anakee; no no-name brands)
  • are credit cards accepted for tyre purchases or is cash the way to go?

TIA

Hey there Stefan, what's your planned route and we can choose some likely places for you to buy your tyres.....:thumb

BMW dealers are a good start, there's one near all the biggest cities, best deals can probably be found in smaller businesses which is why it would be useful to know your travel plans.....:eek:onyack

PS credit cards are good and I would hope that the dealers are friendly allowing you to turn up and have them done, but they can sometimes be very busy in the summer months.

Keine problem!

Try ...

Saltire Suzuki in Edinburgh

or Strathearn Tyres, Burrell Street, Crieff, PH7 4DG 01764 654697.

Both have good reputations for service and competitive prices.

Anything else we can do for Sir?

In addition to the BWM dealers, I have used the following and would recommend them all:

Strathern Tyres in Crieff
Silletts in Aberdeen
Serviceline in Newtown St Boswells

Google the above for more details (or visit www.yell.co.uk). I would suggest you call them a day or two before to check stock.

Payment by credit card is usually OK.

Have fun.

Kai

it is worth phoning first and checking they have the correct size and make in stock, many parts of Scotland don't have overnight delivery so it can take 2 days if you a long way north.

Thanks for all the replies and info!

As for my route there is no detailed plan but the general idea is to traverse France in one or two days, across the channel and maybe up to Bristol, travel Wales, then up to Dumfries, and clockwise around and into Scotland during the next two weeks, then rather straight in direction home again. This route can completely change however on day one already and will be dictated mainly by weather forecasts and personal mood of bike and rider :D.

Might see some of you on the road!
