I daresay it will vary according to manufacturer - mine take 3-4 secs to get to full brightness for the first time. They work straight away if you have only just turned them off recently, but from cold thats the delay on mine.

Its long enough to be a problem. They don't stay warm very long either and it can catch you out. As mentioned earlier a Philips Xstreme bulb in the main in a way round this. HID for the dipped is money well spent though ;)

Look like decision made then. HID Dipped, Phillips Xstreme Main.

Thanks guys - you saved me £65+ on an extra HID :)

It's interesting isn't it. My mate has HIDs on his car and the main beam is instant. I have HIDs on my bike and it take a while to get to full brilliance. So what's different? Why can't HIDs for bikes be instant?

When I start the bike I put the main on while putting my helmet on. It will hold a charge for 20min and if you flick it every now and then it will keep the charge. But as I said if I had to do it again I would just keep the stock setup with a Phillips extreme.

Les converted my gsa to Hid (led side light) in my humble opinon they are the dogs doo dahs i dont tend to use the high beam flash as most car drivers are to easily confused without any help from me.

I fitted both. Had to make a bracket to mount both lights, luckily a friend is very good with the sheet metal. It makes a massive difference to have a dedicated fog light and when you switch on the spotlights it turns night into day. Used Hella FF50 fog lights at the bottom and mounted the spotlights at the top. I only choose the FF50 to compliment the looks as it has a similar shape to the headlight and light. There is other better spotlights but for me this is adequate. Give Les a PM and he'll be able to advise you and supply the switch. On ADVrider.com there is loads of circuits of how to wire the lights. I decided to integrate all the electrical components power supply into one harness which was then zip tied to the BMW harness. Everything was made to look as factory fitted. A lot of effort for something that is not going to be seen. The spot lights and other items is powered from a fuse panel with it's own relay switching battery power on demand activated by a autoswitch. To turn the spotlights on simply switch the separate switch supplied by Les ( mounted on the LH handlebar ) to on and then every time you flash the headlight the spot will light up as well.

I have a 6000K HID and genuine BMW LED spots on one of my bikes. Whenever my mates join me on a ride, they always want me to lead now.:D

HID the way maybe

Thanks for the images of your GSA light setup tanneman. Does Les Wasel have a website he seems to be the man in the know?

Thanks for the link. Made contact today and Les was very helpful. He has a reasonable website that gives you some idea of what an HID conversion looks like when switched on!
