I am in the fortunate position of being able to order a new helmet shortly. I think I have settled on the Shoei Multitec. It seems to meet all the criteria bar one. Communications.

Currently use a NADDY wired comms box which is battery powered and has two headsets, so can talk to swmbo when touring. It's basic but a bit uncomfortable on the old ear after a few hours, although I suppose the headdset might be more comfortable in the Shoe as it has recesses inbuilt for headphones.
I dont like listening to music / radio whilst riding, and am not bothered about phone calls, they will call again later if it's important. Also not bothered about sat nav audio, I think that would do my head in over a short period of time as well.

Anyone know of anything coming on to the market in the near future ?
Or is it a case of trying to locate some more headphone foam pads and windshields for the Naddy?

We've got a BT Midland bluetooth intercom - the one that comes with to ear speakers and it's very good.
We use it bike to bike and it's good for about 100 meters and usually more.Rider to pillion is no problem.
The only thing 'wrong' with it is that the signal sometimes drops out and the 'slave' unit has to be switched back on with one touch- we think it's caused by power lines disrupting the signal...

I can hear fine with ear plugs in and it lasts for hours- we've never run the battery down so far...It's on a mains charger so we don't know how we'd charge it on a long camping trip which will be a problem come the summer.
I know your not interested in taking phone callls but it's very good for that as well- not tried it with a GPS.

I would not buy a wired system as I hate the idea of trailing leads and so far this set up has been fine.

BlueAnt Intercon

This is a post I just made

Hi
I have a Shoei Multitec with a BlueAnt intercom. I have fitted these to many types of helmets with no problems. Flat microphone and boom mike.
Fantastic unit and clear as a bell at 90MPH. Only thing to be careful of is talk time . If you leave them on full intercom you will get about 4 hrs talk time but I turn off and on the talk option from standby, press button on - talk - press button off . And lasts days and days riding.

Both my wife and I have Autocoms on our bikes and my wife also has a Bluetooth headset for her Tomtom Rider. I use a wired connection to my satnav.

Both wired and Bluetooth work OK but the biggest problem with Bluetooth is remembering to charge it which means half the time it doesn't work. I never have that problem as everything is wired and powered off the bike. Neither do I have to frig about before a trip because the Bluetooth has paired with her phone, not the satnav so the satnav will pair with neither until they have all been reset and searched for each other again.

If the Tomtom Rider had an AV out she would be very happy to dump the Bluetooth and just use the Autocom for everything.

tTanks for the advice, think I will look for an Interide bluetooth unit for each of us. I suppose the answering phone and sat nav audio might be useful a some time or another if in small doses.
