Which GPS?

The wife is in the market for a new GPS (bought by the company for the company car). So what's it to be. The last time I bought one, the SP3 was the bees knees. Now there are all sorts of other things!!

Advice? Experience?

No idea how technical your good lady is, but mine (and she'll openly admit this) is a technical numpty, and she loves my 2610. Easy enough to use for "get me there, and get me there quick" and also enough "toys" built in to keep the technical fiddler (me) happy for hours on end. You see I need to know that the positional accuracy is currently 19 feet, my wife's doing well if she knows she's in Hampshire

Depends what you want. I wouldn't buy a Windows-based PDA system again and would suggest a dedicated unit.

I'd suggest you look at TomTom Go (version 5) or Garmin Quest.

Other than the usual Quest or 2610 suspects and if using in the car.

Take a look at the Garmin alternative to TomTom. I suggest a C320 Europe pack, the C330 is not yet shipping.
