:) Hi guys, Beers all round in advance, first off I am looking to buy a GS but I am unsure which would suit my needs the best.

I have £4k-£5 to spend which do I get R850GS, R1100GS or R1150GS.
At the moment I am leaning to an early 1150 only because its the newest variant .

These are my requirements: I would only be doing gentle off roading nothing serious. I will be touring europe at least once a year (not two up though), Most weekends I do 200 miles mainly B and A roads.

It has got to be comfy that is my main requirement.

I am going to be doing my own servicing where possible.

Help please.

Deciding which to get is half the fun but I just cannot decide.

Any of the above will do what you want........

Just buy the best you can find for the money you want to spend...;)

Enjoy......:P

as you need it to be comfy, budget some money for a new seat whichever variant you choose.

There is only one to consider, the far superior 1100gs.

In Noddy colours..............or.............Blue and white.........................or..............Black..................or....or.........................Arghhhhh.

You know it makes sence.

1100 has it

As Noddy quite rightly says it's got to be an 1100, but I am biased........

Seriously though there are so many 'extras' for the GS that it will pay you to shop around a bit and try to get a bike with them on. What 'them' is really depends on what you intend to use it for. the main add-ons tend to be, not necessarily in any order:- seats, lights, screen, luggage, remus or similar can.

Higher mileage is not always indicative of a bad bike, look for the extras you want along with a well-cared for beast with good service history. Engines are just bedding in above 20000 miles!

Whatever you get I'm sure you'll not live to regret it & if you're not sure about what to look for I'm sure there will always be someone her to offer advice, take the p!ss sometimes or even go with you to check possible purchases.

Thanks for the info everyone.

I have got a VFR at the moment which I am trying to sell.

I found the VFR comfy at high speed motorway stuff but not at lower speeds.

I know the GS is for me.

I am now thinking of getting an 1100 with all or most of the kit on it already. I have seen one in Black that looks fantastic.:D

I agree with Noddy - a sorted black 1100 is the way to go. Heres the proof :D

Hows life ? still riding that cissy 1150 and getting lost in the streets of Dublin ?

is it that ropey old 1100 leaving stains on your drive fergus?

BTW before you say it, it wasn't my 1150 while it was parked there ;)

Hey Ferg,
That looks like a UK tax disc on the front !!! How did you get the dry patch under the bike ? Nice trailer....... I hope its chained to something. The knaks have been collecting trailers here in Dublin so now we have three clamped and chained together. :beerjug::

You're right - it wasn't your bike - it was Judge's ropey ol' R100 that left the oil stains :D

you know you're gonna want the bling bling...

whichever way you'll go, you know you're gonna want to add some toys...

IMO. I'd go with 1100. Better than the older model, should cheaper, in price only, than the 1150 and tons of proven aftermarket stuff. A very popular model and a good dealer and fan-supported motorcycle.
