For the best riding I would suggest buying the newest one you can afford. 2009 up handle better, 2008 up stop better and hold more petrol, 88 runs better that Evo's, 96 runs a little better than the 88, and 103 runs better yet.
There are some Dynas with speedo on the tank and they are the lightest and least expensive big twin. Fine for solo riding just ok 2-up or longer trips. RK is a little heavier but more comfortable especially on longer rides or 2-up. Plus they come with bags and shield.
If your less concerned about power, handling, and brakes Evos are maybe the best looking and quite durable. I would avoid anything prior to an Evo.
I don't know your market but if it's like here Harley prices are down so it's a good time to buy used ones.
