Which Harley to buy?

For the best riding I would suggest buying the newest one you can afford. 2009 up handle better, 2008 up stop better and hold more petrol, 88 runs better that Evo's, 96 runs a little better than the 88, and 103 runs better yet.
There are some Dynas with speedo on the tank and they are the lightest and least expensive big twin. Fine for solo riding just ok 2-up or longer trips. RK is a little heavier but more comfortable especially on longer rides or 2-up. Plus they come with bags and shield.

If your less concerned about power, handling, and brakes Evos are maybe the best looking and quite durable. I would avoid anything prior to an Evo.

I don't know your market but if it's like here Harley prices are down so it's a good time to buy used ones.

Steer clear of dealerships, there are plenty of underused HD's in the private garages and often bargains can be found, I'm a bit biased but I like the Evo (1340) Road Kings, comfortable and reliable, £5-7k should get you a nice example.

Stratstone have a policy of pricing their second hand bikes as the cheapest on the market. They scan all the major sites and drop prices to move the second hand bikes quickly, plus you get a warranty and they often move a bit on the price.

Mine dropped £1,000 between when I left home to look at it and when I walked into the dealership. They then paid me what I had bought the Dyna for 3 years and £15k miles before, fitted the detachables kit on the Tourpack for free and did a deal on the price. They then replaced the belt for free when it snapped within 500 miles and I got a new battery as well.

Apart from that I'd steer clear ;)
