Reading some of the posts about headsets for the zumo...I would like one that just plugs in so I can hear the instruction and any music.
Now I know that the zumo has bluetooth capability but I'm not confident enough on that yet.
So, any good, cheap helmet speakers (not keen on in-ear) that I can just stick in helmet and plug into the zumo?

bluetooth is Mono

Hi
can't advise on the speakers 'cus I use molded in-ear ones, be aware if you do go down the bluetooth route, it's mono not stereo for your music.

Apparently not any more. The new n-com from nolan is supposed to be in stereo now:thumb

Does the Zumo broadcast in Stereo Bluetooth though?

I've a Starcom1 headset plugged direct into the Zumo. About 40 quid I think..
Good for getting instructions and it's fairly loud but lacking bass. Could be louder with earplugs but a boostaroo thingy would fix this,,the mic is fairly sh1te though(I've both Boom in the System 5 and a Stick on one in the Tour X). It's just about usable at low speed.

Have a look at these as stereo and waterproof connections etc.

I can recall reading your post about these but you didn't comment on what they were like at speed - I'm not after an expensive set so these are a good price but can you actually hear anything above 50mph?

Thanks for the ebay link :thumb2

Well.... thats another story

My new crash hat that I ordered before Easter has still not turned up. The seller said it was posted before so its on the missing list :(

These speakers have a sticky 3M backing that I assume you can only use once so i'm waiting Still to fit it in my new lid when it finally arrives.

Then I hope to be able to give you an idea on sound quality and volume etc

I bought some and went out today, with the zumo on full volume you can just about hear the speakers at 70mph. My problem is the wind noise is so bad with my lid that I have to wear ear plugs, then I can only hear Zumo instructions when nearly stationery. Bottom line you get what you pay for and they aint that bad, I like the fact that the earpieces can be detached from the velcro backing so can be removed from the helmet if necessary.

i havew yet to cme across helmet speakers that are loud enough to be heard clearly enough at speed and through earplugs to understand navigation instructions, let alone appreciate music.

I used a dead cheap "hang over your ear" speaker that alerted me to the fact that an announcement was being made, so you can look at the screen to see what the announcement actually was! It wasn't massively comfortable but was ok.

I have used micro-buds with custom fit tips and volume isn't the problem with them, it's the amount of wind noise they let through. I can boost the voluem to drown out the wind noise, but I shudder to think what damage that might be doing to my ears!

I've bitten the bullet and ordered some custom fit monitors. Not cheap, I know, but I'm being suckered in by the marketing spiel of "4p per day to pretooect your hearing" traveller, I don't know why you're not keen on in-ear speakers. I have custom fit moulded earplugs at the moment and I wouldn't ride anywhere without them. They're extremely comfortable and very effective.
