I guess a few of you guys commute daily down the highways and byways of this car infested country - I know cause I pass more GS's than any other kind of bike.

But anyway, I have just started a new job and have a relatively new 1200GS with the expanable BMW topbox and I have got a new HP laptop with bag and the laptop fits but not the bag.

So which bags are small enough to fit, or alternatively what do other people do? - take a pannier maybe?

All advice gladly received.

The top box would be the worst place you could put a laptop - it's the area on a bike that vibrates the most... depends on if you like your hard drive in working order... proberly the safest for it would be to go to a outdoor store and get a descent "city" day pack - North face, arcteryx, Macpac and secent brands now do comfortable backpacks with padded sleeves for laptops

Been carrying my work laptop in a Givi top case for over a year now and no probs so far, however the vibrations comment makes sense.

Axio do a range of rucksacks designed for carrying laptops that have hard cases and AFAIK are designed for motorcycling (one even has an aero hump in it like racing leathers) :)

There are UK suppliers too

I put my laptop in a standard business laptop bag (which I guess you already have) then put that into a 25 litre overboard bag (waterproof rucsac) with a roll top closure. This is bungee netted to the rear seat area with the rear seat removed. Very neat, no vibrations as the laptop bag is padded, and its waterproof. Ive been riding like this for 3 months with no problems. The overboard bag can be purchased here http://www.over-board.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=30_28&products_id=39

I take my laptop every day to work in my pannier - just stick it in a jiffy bag inside the inner pannier bag and had no issues so far.

Been using a small leather Dicota case for more than three years in a Givi topbox with no ill effects whatsover. Same case also gets hauled on planes, trains and autos and the laptop's never missed a beat. Enough room for cables, papers and various paraphernalia. The front pocket hold (deep breath): blackberry, phone, 3g card, 2 sets of keys, fags, lighter, power cables, phone charger, work pass, glasses cases, oystercard (I know, I know, there are some times when the bike look just doesn't do), mouse..........
