I've recently obtained a nice little freebie in the shape of a Sony Clie NR70V/E (PDA thingy). To make it even more functional it apparently needs a memory stick, however Ahmed in the local Sony shop wants about £60.
Can anyone tell me what specification/type i should be looking for and where they can be obtaied at a more reasonable rate ?

ps - keep it simple

You'll need to check in your manual on the correct type of Memory stick to buy. For most applications, the regular 'blue' one is fine, but some apps use the protected 'white' sticks instead. DO check your manual.
Once you know the type, Kelkoo is a pretty good place to check for low prices. There's a site selling a 128mb stick for about £29.
Pricerunner is showing even lower prices - just be careful on your choice of retailer.

Sony uses their own proprietary memory stick format and not many people make them in large quantities so they are pricey. Amazon UK were the cheapest supplier when I had a Sony Clie, but anything more than a 128MB stick made me wince. Go to Amazon's "electronics and photo" bit and search for sony memory stick - 128MB are down to about £30. BE CAREFUL OF MODELS - there are different versions of the memory stick - check the part numbers you can use at the Sony site in case you have a "only memory stick pro" machine

The main advantage you get from them is the ability to use the PDA like one of them USB pen memory thingys as Sony give you some software to set this up on a Windows PC. There is a possibility of installing some programs on them but they will run like a dawg from there and you aren't going to be short of space with the nice Clie model you have. A pen drive with 256MB of memory in it cost me about £35.00 t'other day.

Try the 7dayshop which has the 128Mb memory stick for £21.49 and a 256Mb for £39.99. Delivery usually takes a couple of weeks but particularly for film and small items, such as memory, the savings compensate well for the wait.

no personal experience of memory stick but i ALWAYS buy memory from these people.

products & service is top class. next day, special delivery is standard & it's free shipping over £25 ;)
