Which Modern bikes will become Classics?

On the contrary.......

Old Brit bikes are much better now than they were back in the day. Better bearings, better oil, better gaskets, suspension, brakes, tyres, electronic ignition, new carbs and lots of knowhow to cure the old problems. If they're put together right they can be very good but they do need maintenance.

2 years ago I rode my 1966 Bonneville to Gibraltar (1000 miles in 3 days) and my 1968 Spitfire to Spain and back (1500 miles in 5 days) without any problems whatsoever, nothing broke, nothing fell off and not a drop of oil was dripped  .......................and both bikes are now worth more than they were 2 years ago :aidan

That's as maybe.................you can still keep'em, in preference to a modern bike:clap

.

Yes the CX is definitely a classic already, not many left in this sort of condition :D

I had one just like that.....same colours. Did my first Euro touring on it, well over thirty years ago.

They chewed cam chain tensioners, but PERSONALLY I’ve never heard of one chewing the shaft drive components.

Brings back many memories of a great ‘bike, and a great time in my life.....:)

Yeah I think the earlier models had cam tensioner problems, but they were mostly sorted on the later versions of the bike (identifiable by three centre punch marks by the engine number). Main problem was the tensioner was at the bottom and rear of the engine so the whole lot had to come out. :blast
Yeah, they never had shaft problems, but then they had a swing arm and shock on both sides :D

Glad to have helped with yer memories :thumb

early models had big end failures as well, but i think everything was sorted eventually.

i'd like that one, but it'd have to lose the panniers.

I found mine to be comfortable, very reliable and well finished. But then I never really did the mileage to provoke any serious problems though. Can't ever see it being a classic bike, even though it was the prettier version. (if there ever was a good looking CX) :augie

RD350LC. The bike defined an era - I owned three of them over the years two originals and a ypvs

The first 2 were tuned for proddy racing Terry Beckett and Stan Stephens respectively

Great bikes :rob

Hang on they already are classics

SV650 as a modern, commute, tour, scratch, there is even a class at the TT for them. The modern LC

I've finally been drawn into this thread - however unsure is what is classed as 'modern' so I'll go with anything that I could buy new in my biking lifetime and thats 1976 onwards.

From the 70's
Kawasaki Z900/1000 (mainly the 900 though).
Kawasaki KH500/750 (again mainly the 750)
Suzuki GT750
Suzuki RE5
Honda CBX1000
Yamaha XT500
BMW R90

From the 80's
BMW G/S
Honda GL1500
Honda CH125A Spacey (I loved mine:D)
Yamaha V-Max
Suzuki Katana1100 (didn't like them myself).
Kawasaki Z1300

From the 90's
BMW R100GSPD (already a classic:augie)
Yamaha GTS1000
Honda RC30/45
Honda Africa Twin
Ducati 888SP
Aprilia Moto 6.5

From the Noughties
R1150GS Adventure
BMW HP2 Enduro (Can someone remind me why I sold mine:( )
BMW C1
Ducati 916
MV Augusta 1000
Triumph Rocket 3

Todays bikes
BMW R1200 GSA Triple Black :hide

Of all the above the one I would like (As a classic) would probably be the Suzuki GT750B in Black:bow

Virtually every bike in that list bar a few of the the very newest is already regarded as a classic.

I thought the object was to suggest bikes that would be regarded as classics in the future.

That applies to nearly every post on this thread
