Sorry if this has been answered.
There seem to be so many Ohlins types.
Which is the recommended Model for the GS for general better comfort, road-holding etc (Not track or sport)
Many thanks
Peter

Peter I'm no expert but I think there's basically a choice of one depending on what model you've got. You can change the spring to suit your weight and that's about it other than fiddling with preload, rebound adjustment.

Any Ohlin will give you better roadholding and handling and will be more compliant over the bumps.

This is what Ohlins offer, with little explanation

Number Position Code P/C Length Stroke Spring
BM 046 Rear S46DR1 9 395 70.5 00698-54
BM 436 Rear S46DR1S 16 403 78.5 00698-54
BM 437 Front S46ER1 9 337 94 01096-10
BM 508 Rear S46DR1S 16 395 70.5 00698-54
BM 509 Front S46ER1 9 325 82 01096-10
BM 543 Rear S46PR1C1LQ1S 26 403 +12/-0 78 00698-54

Cos there's GS and GSA and there's ESA and non ESA - and probably a lowered version come to think of it - why don't you email them your specific bike and they'll tell you which one to get

Or call someone who knows.

I always use MCT in Stowmarket, but there are a number of good Ohlins dealers out there, all of whom can advise you on the shock / spring and setup.

I know MCT have done a large number of GS's with both Wilburs and Ohlins and one of the guys there has owned a few GS's over the years.

My Tenere is going there in August for a Wilburs - which I had on my GS as well, have you also considered one of these?

IMO pretty damn close to Ohlins quality for a lot less money - and with a 5 year warranty, and each one is built to order, they ask your weight and passenger weight (if you hav one) as well as how often you ride one up / two up etc. and then build a shock with spring and damping to suit you and the riding you do.

Ohlins can also be tailored, but come as a stock unit and you then need to get them re-sprung / revalved if the stock setup is not right - although some Ohlins dealers may do this as part of a deal.

This - give them a call.

I don't know MCT personally but they are highly recommended on the KTM forum for suspension setups.

Amazing what technology can do these days

why don't you email them your specific bike

This is fantastic! I don't normally hold with this new-fangled stuff, but if only I had known, it would have been so much easier to email my bike off for a service. They could just email it back once they'd done it.

When you click on the "attachments" button, what folder do you find your bike in? I can't see one called "garage"

How come this service isn't advertised more widely?

We need to be told.....
