Since my 2004 1150GSA was pinched last month I am now looking to replace it, however I am in a bit of a dilemma of which to get.
I loved my 1150GSA and fancy another, I know it well and still have a few bits for it, like panniers etc.
I took a new 1200 GSA out for a test run and really liked that too, was actually a little more comfortable to ride. I was sure I wanted another 1150 as I thought the 1200 was a bit too plasticky and new fangled for an all terrain bike but now, having ridden one the 1200 GSA is growing on me.

Models around 05/06 seem to be getting closer in price which in my mind shows how the 1150GSA is becomming a classic and gaining value whereas the 1200GSA depreciates more. To me this says a lot and that the 1150 GSA is the way to go.

Another concern I have is that I have no garage to keep it in and I wonder how well all the electronic gizmoes on the 1200 will stand up to being exposed to the elements as the years roll by.

My gut tells me the 1150 will stand up better to the elements than the 1200 but that is just a feeling and I wonder if anyone out there has any advice on which way to go. If I did got for a 1200GSA then it would be an early one, probably an 06 model.

So how do I decide or do I just stay with what I know and trust?

Any suggestions gladly recieved.

Simon

You've already made the right decision!!

I have the 1200 GSA and love it, however mine's a new one so can't really comment on the 06 one. I would suggest doing a back to back test ride.

I had a 12GSA (2008 MU with all the gadgets), whilst it was ok...............

I prefer the 1150GSA and stuck with them

Some do and some don't

I two have mixed feelings.just got a 07 1200GSA whilst i love the 1200 because it's new ish and lighter then the 1150 gsa i do miss my 1150 gsa.still got it not sure if i am going to sell it.they both have pro's and con's me I'm still 50/50 to which one comes out in front at the mo still need to do some more miles on the 1200 but might keep me 1150 just in case.

In all honesty, I don't think that a 1200GSA will suffer any more or any less living outdoors than an 1150GSA. It's probably more important what sort of condition it is in to start with and how well you look after whatever you buy.

1200gsa

i have an 06 plate 1200gsa and it really is great. there are no recall issues on this bike either.

i looked at getting an 1150 gsa but it does feel heavier than the 1200.
i have had no issues on mine and use it every day in all weathers.

there is a bit of corrosion in the usual place but not much compared to some i have seen. i have heard some bad stories about some of the 1200 models.

funnily enough I am selling my gsa as the recession has finally caught up with me. i am looking to get something that can tour europe, commute around london, have some fun on and also get my weekly shop as well.

ideally looking at f800gs but for the price of them compared to the 1200 it might be worth trying to hold on.

was thinking of getting a dakar as i would also like to do a very big trip, possible rtw in a couple of years so i really need a one bike fits all.
