As many have said Gerry the Iron is a great bike for blatting about on. It's quicker than you'd think, handles surprisingly well and is cheap to buy and run. The '48 is even cooler and has the 1200 engine in it. Neither are what you'd call practical though, with zero weather protection, single seats and small ranges. The Iron can be picked up for silly money second hand as it has been around for about 3 years now.
If you have the time it's worth test riding a dyna as well. The big twin engine is a much more enjoyable machine. I bought my Superglide from a main dealer. It was a limited edition (I know the paint job wasn't to everyone's taste
), had less than 5k on the clock and FSH, came with a 12 month warranty and 12 months T&T and already had the Stage 1 completed. Cost less than a brand new 883 on the road.
Low mileage dynas for around £7k have to be one of the best buys you can get in the biking world. I lost £500 on mine after 4 years and 10,000 miles

Yup, found the factory setting too laid back. Prefer the slightly more forward positioning.

I like most Harleys as they have loads of character and are well made. I really like the XR1200 and the Fatbob. I had a softail Deuce for 6 years and regret never going touring on it but it was just too relaxed for the pace my mates ride at. I will definately have another but want a Triumph Rocket 3 Touring first.

I had an XR1200 too although it wasnt as good as the Buell. Current steed is a 2012 Street Glide which is just about to get a clean after getting grubby in France last week
