Looking to buy my first sat nav, can anyone advise on the best unit to buy on a sensible budget, is there a unit that you can plan your own journey using road numbers rather than whatever the sat nav gives you.
Cheers

Try doing a search on 'satnav' or just go and have a look through the GPS forum.

Which GPS suits you (sir :) ) is such a difficult question to answer. How much do you want to spend, do you want to use it in the car as well, do you want to stick to the UK or go abroad, do you want a standalone GPS or a PDA...???

Big names in the game are Garmin & TomTom.

Also have a look at www.gpsw.co.uk

Tom tom rider or Garmin 2610 seem to be popular, any comments on both would be appreciated.

TomTom rider popular  not from what I've read.

Garmin 2610, now discontinued :( cracking bit of kit. If buying second hand you might bets someones junk :(

Garmin Quest 1 might be a good one, if you want to use it off the bike and don't mind the screen size. The screen size makes it easy to carry around though :)

BTW unless you know exactly what you're doing, or feeling really lucky, don't even think of buying a GPS on ebay :thumb

I've not got one for the bike (yet), but I bought a Garmin Nuvi for the wife and daughter the other day off a place which advertises on ebay. The company I bought it from is selling new Quests for £180 at the mo which seems like a good deal see here
I'd recommend them (they're actually a franchised Toyota dealer).

edit: they also do most of the other GPS inc Zumos etc, plus they're only up the road from you in Sheffield

Have had both TomTom and garmin Zumo. The Zumo is much better on the bike IMHO. It is easier to use and give you phone and MP3 capability if you want it.

Bought it off Pentagon GPS (franchised Toyota dealer) refered to above. Ace service from them.
