I konw its been asked before but seeing as I'm looking at changing my rear shock. Whats the recomended replacment ?
Ohlins ERS ? or DRS ? White power ? Hagon ? Hyper-Pro Spring ?
Hyper-Pro Shock ? Anything but the above ?

Hagon have quoted me £295 for a shock bult to my spec.

Hagon is the one NOT to buy, the rest are simply on a different league.

You have to decide what adjustments you want to have. As a shock, probably technoflex is the best and the only with 5 yrs warranty. Technoflex will also modify it if you change bike.

thats quite a question. Two things are clear -1- NOT BMW (Showa) similarly NO rebuilds thank you -2- NOT Hagon, definatley harder, but about as progressive as boot up the arse (still they are cheap - but cost per day is probably less than Ohlins as they dont seem to last).

You are left with Fournales, hyper, WP, O....

I´d go for WP or O. But set the bike up for yourself.

Stef I would NOT buy a hagon, I only have R100GS experience and whilst its way better than original shock its is not going to really hit the spot. Depends what you want. When I bought it I was skint and to be honest I cant really complain.

Be brave

Be different and go for Fox Racing shocks from US they are about the same price as ohlins but in my opinion they are the mutts nuts. The stockist in this country is Race Components (Europe) Ltd 0118 944 0032. Ok so im wierd lol

I'm seriously dissapointed with my WP shock. I've tried pissing about with it, ignoring it for long periods of time and I still can't get it right, The Standard shock feels much better and more consistant and lasted for the best part of 35k before it went 'Off', I think Ohlins or one of the other well recommended shocks is the only way to go.

I've fitted Ohlins (F+R)

The difference is amazing, far better damped, and the bike is far more stable at speed.

Expensive, but worth it :)

At the moment in totaly skint, as its a quiet time at wirk with no O/T. but I need to get the reasr end sorted for a two up with "her" luggage trip to Ireland in May, so I'm looking at getting a Hyper-Pro spring. Untill such times as financies are looking better. I know some would say theres no point putting a new spring on an old shock, but I dont feel theres anything wrong with the damping as its set quite soft.

The O/E Showa shock looks just like the one fitted to some Triumphs, I had one last 62,000 miles.
It was completly knackered by then :P

A mate bought a Techno-Flex for his Trophy 1200 and rates them highly but he's had it re-worked numerous times to get it right.
But to be fair to Techno-Flex I believe his was the first Trophy shock they made.

The problem I find with most shocks are they are made to accomodate an 11 stone rider (70kg) now consdidering the fact that im "slighty" heavier (no sniggering at the back) Ive got to wind the Pre-Load up to near max before even attempting to put on a pillion and/or luggage, of course I reckon the problem is the misses is too fat

An Ohlins, Technoflex or a complete Hyper-Pro unit would be my prefered route, once ive a bit more cash. But I will investigagte Fox and Fournales

The best shocks are Penske - if you can get one

( i know cos i've had them all on a shock dyno )

next best would be an ohlins.

White Power ( WP ) have lost the plot - used to be good but nowhere now.

However, a lot of people have used Hyper-pro and reckon they're just as good or better than ohlins - for the price.

If you're a fat ba.. er - slightly portly, then whichever shock you go for make sure you tell them your weight - and your mrs fully kitted.

That way - you shouldn't have to wind up the preload cos its already taken care of with stiffer springing from the manufacturer.

if its not right - tell 'em

Phil

( sitting with a pair of Mclaren F1 ( not the road car ) in-house made dampers in front of him that cost £7500 a pair !!!!! )

Ive contacted Hyper-Pro and they said they would supply a spring to cope with my 106kg :D

I'll give you a tenner for them, as long as you can supply springs aswell :D

Stef - our springs wouldn't be any good to you - they're torsion bars.
The dampers act independantly of the spring through a rocker mechanism.
It also means the springs can be changed in about 30 sec.
