As the title really. I'm about to push the button on a new S10 and am asking which sump guard is best and why.

It won't be for heavy duty high speed off roading, more as protection from stones etc. on fast gravel roads.

Do the standard plastic brackets really protect the side panels if the bike falls off it's side stand or a stationary drop at a fuel station for example?

What protection has anyone applied to the tank to save the paint from wear from jacket zips and trousers etc.?

Hi the standard yam one will do your job for that, I think you will need crash bars if your goin to be lying it on its side as the radiator has little or no protection:thumb2

I have fitted the SW Motech on and works a treat ( bar a full oil change ). Rasher went one step further and got his SW-Motech sump guard painted black to match the bike and looks very good to.

Full instructions picture-by-picture are detailed and posted on S-10 forum, so, can't go wrong !

I think any should do this, I went with SW-Motech and it is fine, I just wanted to protect the engine from crap being thrown at it, but it would take a fair battering, you only need more if your planning on dropping the bike onto huge rocks.

Sometimes, probably most the time, I have seen them praised, but would recommend more, the cost of the bars is far less than a new side panel, I did witness a bike with Givi bars topple over and it rolled over the top of the bars and scratched the panel, my SW-Motech ones sit a bit higher so I would recommend them - but have not tested them!

I just use clear plastic stuff, you can get it in Hein Gerricke and cut to size to protect whatever you want - handy for sportsbikes when chucking luggage over the back as you can easily peel it off afterwards, I also use it to protect the fronts of my panniers from chips.

Make sure you save enough cash for an ECU Flash :thumb2

There's no "if" about it :D

Well done that man, I was confident that someone would have got a picture:D

I nearly had to lay it on its side again two weeks back and for the same reason, side stand puck in rear pannier and parking on soft ground. Still, lifting it again saves some gym time:)

I think the givi crash bars are excellent, they look good and provide good coverage of the rad etc.

I have givi bars and rack with back box on my S10.

The bars are pure sh1t !! I aint kidding, they look like theve been lying at the bottom of the ocean for yrs. 6 months and they were rusted, now they are all flaked etc. The bolts that hold the plate for the back box are also destroyed too. The dealer I bought off are looking at getting me a replacement.

Never again will I buy GIVI.

I must disagree with the above post. This is a piccy of my S10 taken in Corsica last month. The crash bars are 18months/15k miles old and are like new. No issues with the top box mountings either.

tks Mike, I dont know why it happened or what has happened. The bars are all pitted, rust setting in everywhere (its like they werent coated) and skid plate fittings are rusted like theyve been out at sea. I clean my bikes regular and dont throw sugar at them either. But Ive owned a lot of bikes. This aint right. These bits and pcs went like this within 5 months.

See below. Im gonna get the dealer to take em off...refund or else fix / replace. Summit aint right. ( i should have stuck with SW MOTECH ).

I agree thats not right. Even if you'd sprayed it with salt water every day for 5 months they should last better than that!

I had a faulty Givi pannier rail where it was catching the exhaust shield. It was replaced immediately by my dealer, so you should have no problem with your crash bars as they are definately sub-standard.

Let us know how you get on.

My first SW-Motech set turned up badly scuffed up, the second set had a small chip - I kept these as they kindly threw me a top box inner bag for my troubles.

Looking good so far, but not done a full winter yet.
