Hi Can anyone recommend a supplier of either a 5.5mm allen key socket piece-or a 5.5mm allen key T Bar-or what are you guys using to do a gear oil change? I have all sorts of Allen Key bars/pieces-some even 5.5mm-but nothing I can get enough purhase on to open the bolt. I want to try the synthetic gear oil tip,
Thanks

Get the engine nice and hot, get back in your garage, insert allen key in drain plug, give end of key a REALLY good smack with a hammer, and if you're lucky, it'll come out. They had mega problems with those things, and changed them all to a 14mm hex head, so get one of them before you start. Simple, the last one only took me five hours to do:(
Give me a bell if you get in the shite. How old is your bike, must be an 1100, should have been done by now.

Just make sure you can undo the filler before you drain the oil out!!

Hi Guys-well just shows you shouldn't worry. Turns out the original drain bolt was some sory of torx head-but for some reason one of my many allen bits 6mm fitted perfectly-breaker bar on it cam out no problem in a fraction of a second. Took your adive and purchased new bolt with standard 14 mm head and fitted that though. Best news is that putting in new semi synthetic oil (couldn't find full synthetic at API GL5)-has transformed my gearbox-and certainly on the eraly test runs removed my long standing need to preload the gear shift going up from 2-3. The whole box is like a Suzuki one now-miraculous!
Highly recommended-semi synth oil -£5.99-new secondhand box plus fitting £800-what would you choose?
Happy Explorer:)

Semi-synth

Hi,
I can't remember exactly I think it was Millers or something-but it was the correct API and so pukka stuff. Got it from Les something or other the cheaper Halfords type chain.
