Well I've succumbed at last. Going touring with the Memsahib in June so I've just started looking for the necssary kit. Already got panniers but no top box. Would appreciate advice on which make/size etc and if anyone knows where there are any 'deals' on at the moment. My thoughts were for a Givi to fit 2 full face helmets in so the boss has something solid/stable to sleep against instead of me.....
Cheers
Roger

PS....Any advice on intercom able to link to CD player gratefully rec'd.

Givi 52 litre takes 2 helmets no problem. You can have it with or without backrest and with or without integral brakelight - your preference or budget decides which. Also there is a healthy resale market for the Givi if you ever decide to get rid of it.

Hepco & Becker..

Holds 2 x large size EVO IV helmets, the back rest makes it very comfortable, according to the Mrs, and with the rack on top you can bungee a few more bits on.
Typical H&B top quality.

Hein Gericke

If you are not planning to keep it on the bike permanently I can recommend the Hein Gericke universal Top Box. The locking system is a little fragile and it is a very basic set up, but I put one on the GS to tour Ireland last year and it worked well. Cost about 50 quid.

I've got a Givi boggo standard 'monokey' box. Looks just the same as the BMW panniers and takes 2 lids no problem.

For listening to music, i bought an Autocom set for our trip to the alps last year, can plug a CD, phone in, or just use it to chat as you ride. Clear as a bell .I baulked at the cost of it when I first bought it, but it made the holiday. Well worth the money.

Agree, but I've got an GIVI E45 takes two full face helmets and not much else and some helmets have to have one on its base and the other on it's side. Had mine best part of ten years and they get a bit tatty, but are much cheaper than Maxia's.... also has backrest option.

I have a standard Givi Monokey which holds two helmets comfortably. I also have the mounting rack for it.

These are surplus to requirments as I have replaced it with a Touratech set due to a forthcoming trip to the Arctic...

If you do want to go down the Givi Route let me know and we can work something out.

Echo my support for Givi Maxia 52 litre. Great box, sturdy, waterproof ... and I have one available to sell if you're interested.
;)

I've got an old E45 that works well enough for me.

A word of warning though. I read something last year about the rear rack fracturing with the addition of a top box and someone leaning back on it.

I bought a Wunderlich "under rack" from Motorworks which bolts to rear frame and gives extra support to the rack.

Msg for schiannini + Paulf

Thanks for reply guys....If you can pass some detail on condition/price etc to
Roger596 at hotmail dot com I would appreciate it.

I was quoted a good price by Givi UK for E460 and mount but can't get either M&P or Busters to match it. They both want about £20 more than Givi RRP plus P+P.

NonFango

I use a Nonfango 848 , 48L top box which will take two full face lids. You can sometimes pick up a bargain on eBay, and sometimes not as people seem to forget to stop bidding when they go over the price of the item new :shoot:
