Which Topbox ?

Ok, I'm looking for suggestions.

I have a 2005 1200gs with full BMW Vario Luggage fitted.

I am looking for suggestions , pictures if possible of other topbox options which still look good with the vario panniers.

The reason is I would like a top box that I can fit my (L) Caberg Duke helmet into.

I’ve had many bikes. The vario side boxes are useful but I can’t understand why anybody uses the vario topbox. I like a box that will hold 2 helmets and more. Givi maxia 55 for me on my gsa. JJH

The Givi Trekker carries my full face and fits without the silly add on carrier that BMW supply with the adventure rack.
On the GS it needs additional support but kits are available.
Alternatively use a Pacsafe bag through your bike lock anchor chain.

I agree. Givi Trekker 46ltr or 52Ltr. Both are monokey.

Used one with the vario panniers on my GS no problem.

+1 for the Givi Trekker 52L. I swapped from the Vario top box and the Trekker is a complete revelation, we can easily store my Shoei Neotec plus my girlfriend's Caberg Duke together - the Duke is quite a wide helmet but no issues. The Trekker 52L looks massive off the bike but when fitted it doesn't look much bigger than the Vario, it's deceptively large yet the shape makes it appear smaller.

Also for your 2005 bike the Givi SRA692 rack will fit fine, I have it on my 2006 bike. It's often listed for the 2008-on but there's no change at the rear of the bike. Givi and the dealers may tell you the SR684 is the correct rack for your bike but it's an abonimation! I bought mine online from a Givi supplier in Italy, much cheaper, and they actually telephoned me to tell me I was ordering the wrong one, it's not. It's expensive but you can sell it on when you sell the bike and keep the Trekker. The SRA692 will work for all the Givi Monokey top boxes.

This is Kappa's version of the Trekker. It has a more conventional lid. I've used one for a couple of years on my 2007 GSA.......no complaints.

I have a big Trekker top box. It’s the plastic type with alloy appearance panels on the lid so doesn’t look out of place. It’s a big bike so it doesn’t look OTT. It easily carries two full face helmets.

I made the mounting plate from 3mm alloy & a Givi “mushroom” kit. It’s fitted it to the carrier without the OEM top case extender. You can buy a Givi/Kappa mounting plate but not at low cost.
