somewhere, over the rainbow...
righty ho. im thinking a 690 enduro(r) will be my next travel bike (same power as my r00gs but lighter than my 1vj), but wondered if there was a collective opinion as to which year is the best/most reliable to go for? i know the earlier ones had shorter service intervals and rubbish steering lock, middle ones seem to have valve train bearing issues and the newer ones are pricey/completely ride by wire and abs. any views appreciated....
cheers,
karl.

I have done a fair few miles on my 08, magadan to Ireland in 2012 and eastern Bam in 2014, a fair bit of off roading in Ireland and still have the confidence in it to do the road of bones again with the mrs this year and down to the 110.
the only problems I have had are injector (quick fix ) and wiring loom which I replaced last year, Great bikes.

Good luck with your project, keep us posted on how you get on :thumb

Its all a confidence game isn't it? Your experience is waiting to happen..
Ive got a 2012 690 and to be honest Iv'e probably spent more time and money on it changing it to how I want it to look and handle. In truth the standard bike was always far more capable than I could ever be!
IMO it doesn't matter what year you buy, the fear factor is out there as you will always hear about bike issues! read about fuel pumps failure 2:1 on you will change it, The hot exhaust.. you change it, but for me the fun is for me as It's a work in progress! and thats what makes our hobby so addictive.
Yes RR can look good but it's not the best in my experience.
Good luck
Geoff
