Is it me or my tyres?

My tyres squirm something rotten when going over the white lines separating motorway carriage ways etc.

Im running a very well travelled set of Tourances at the moment, but they have always been bad, especially in the wet. I know that there is generally far less grip on thermo-plastic white lines, but I have followed sports bike riders filtering through who seem to have no difficulties.

I check my pressures about twice a month, usually ok.

Im about to swap over to a set of TKC80s and will be interested in how they turn out, am also hoping for more grip ploughing through Surrey's leafy lanes... we shall see.

Mike,
My 1150 came with a well worn set of trailwings, last month I fitted TKC 80's,
Only comment;
What white lines!
Enjoy.

A. Decide in advance which footrest would be the correct one to 'weight'.

B. Confirm that your proposed arc will intersect the white line at more than an angle of 3 degrees.

C. Lifesaver, if appropriate.

D. Weight the footrest.

And which one would that be? I have trouble reaching the pillion rests when I am sitting on the GS normally.

Does weighting the footrests cut out vibrations like handlebar weights do?:D

As it turns out, I was using the wrong pressures. I was reading from the BMW chart inside the tool box. It says 2.2 front, and 2.4 rear for one up, no luggage. Speaking to Guildford Tyres this morning, they said Metzlers own recommendations would be 2.5 front and 2.9 rear. Quite some difference... FYI TKC80s are 2.2 Front and 2.5 rear.

The TKC80s are great so far, still taking it carefully because they are new, its wet etc.. but no trail tyre has a right to lean over like they do! Helps soaks up the roads little - and not so little - imperfections too so town riding is a bit easier, albeit a bit of a waste.

Boundless: how do you know which peg to weight? It would be usefull to know in the future. But for filtering at least, I hardly get any angle on the white lines, so the 3 degree part might not be valid.

Cheers,

Mike

keep off the white lines -- its class A, its not big, and its not clever
