who knows there stuff with final drives

There appears to be two kinds of final drive ,2004-2009 and 2010-2012. the difference seems to be the black inner plate with the mushroom breather on the top.
The question is, aside from the plate,are the insides the same ? apart from the different ratios.?

I think there is a difference...I think the bearings are different. Can't remember exactly but I understood there is a difference - more than just the breather...

2004-2006 First type until the 'model upgrade' came out.
2007-2010 Different input pinion needle roller bearing, new drain screw, different ABS sensor ratio.
2010- Breather fitted to reduce seal leakage due to expansion.

On the 2010-2012 FD the wheel side bearing is in the FD oil bath rather than being a remote 2RS bearing.

I believe there is also a difference between some of the ABS and non-ABS bikes made in same year. Real OEM has different parts diagrams for these
