Just visited my local bike shop. Don't repair punctures!

Tyre is off my Honda CB1 400, hole is about 40mm off the centre.

I'm going to phone Micheldevers to see if they do punctures, and if having Ultraseal in makes any difference.

So has anyone local to me know of a local puncture repair place?

Micheldever will, subject to inspection. As a point of interest they needed to know what the tyre size and make were. Bridgestone 140 70 17 H, so they were OK with that, but obviously ? won't do "Z" rated tyres.

The problem might well be where the hole is located. Are the tyres radials or crossply? I think the rule regarding hole repairs off-centre is for radials. Have you tried Universsal Tyres in Beavois Valley opposite Infinity (or is it Riossi). Also there's Mayors Motorcycles near Redbridge and Totton. They specialise in customs but they have workd on my Jap fours when I lived down the road from them.

PS on a slight tangent, I have a CB1 too. Nice bike that I bought for commuting and general run around to save the GS for longer trips and holidays. What sort of ecnomy do you get from the Honda? I only get about 35mpg, which is low based on my prior Honda 400 experiences (3 NC24s). I haven't serviced it yet so haven't checked the air filter. I may also do a dyno power run to see if its running rich, but I wanted opinions from other owners to see if mine is definitely an exception before spending loads on diagnosis!

Good luck with the tyre!

50mpg average. (75-95mph) I use it to commute from Eastleigh to Portsmouth. Before the GS arrived it and a Kawasaki 900 Eliminator (37mpg ON AGOOD DAY, 11 LITRE TANK  )were my sole transport. The Honda had 23,000Km on it when I bought it for £825 2-3 years ago. Got one of those speedo conversion jobbies for £30. fitted this when I got the bike, now reads 38.000miles :D GS had 996 miles on it when I got it last August, now 16890.

Bits fitted.

New battery.
New regulator.
Second hand alternator.
Tyres.
Chain & sprockets.
Fork seal.
Intermittent electrical problem. Motor spins at normal speed, won't start. Bump it & it starts. Engine off, restarts on the button.
hunts when idling.
Air filter. got this from "Wemoto parts emporium" cost less for what was sold as pattern ( arrived genuine Honda :thumb ) than a pattern part that the local dealer couldn't get anyway. Old filter was dirty, new one looked nice, made no difference to the mpg.
Front disc running out.
Mine has non std. bars. I.e. not clip ons, and has a screen.

Back brake siezed with all the salt last year.

Saw 120 mph once, going down hill. My mate on his 900 Ninja was a tad surprised.

Value for money :thumb :bow :bounce1 :clap
Any other questions Pm me, & you can have me phone No..

Bugger that idea went flat then (groan) puncture too close to the edge, new tyre @£76,79. The old one was only half worn, c'est la vie. Err no, that would be more like a riot then!

bs au 159 you cant repair z rated radials dont matter where the hole is,others eg h rated cross ply centre 3/4 with mushroom plug as a general rule. i see you asked if having ultra seal in makes a differance to repairing i take it that the stuff didnt work then?

Puncture Repairs

As the Technical Manager for Michelin Two Wheel Products may I say that the BS 159 is only advisory!

Most tyre companies have their own policy regarding repairs to their own tyres.Michelin are happy for 'Z' rated tyres to be repaired but with certain limlitations and no 'down grading' in speed.

Ultraseal didn't work. But I put it in after the event.
Perhaps it is the case that only punctures that are virtually slap bang in the middle of the tyre will seal, as the centrifugal action will tend to "bead" the fluid into the middle of the tyre, anything off centre will not get coated.
