I might have to bring a visit to Toronto forward for family reasons.

I'd be getting around to see family spread about the state so thought perhaps I could hire a bike to make it a little more interesting.

Even a crap bike seems to be $99 a day - not so bad until you add another $50 min for basic Ins then mileage charge above 150km then a 3k damage deposit.

Full Ins is shown at another $90 or something -

You can hire a car for £23 upwards:nenau

I can understand this to some degree but when most bikes cost a lot less than most cars it doesn't really add up.

Fair enough a bike takes more care to keep on the road than a car but still not having it. More a case, they want - will pay

I imagine Hire companies will get huge discounts on the cars given the volumes and the cars are then probably sold on second hand 6 month old with some inoffensive name at what the hire company paid.

I'd say its a matter of limited competition in a limited market.

What does a basic bike cost over there - less than $8000 for sure.

The bike will be paid for well before the first service is due.

I got round it by buying a bike in Florida, running it for 6 weeks [4000 miles] and selling it back to the Dealer:D lost a total inc insurance payment, $380 :)
well worth it :thumb2
It was a Suzuki GS 850 shafty

If I was going for longer I'd do that:thumb Unfortunately I'd only be over there for a week - £500 for a weeks hire of a cheap bike just isn't attractive.

Once their bits and bobs have been added up that's about the figure - for a poxy GS500.

Even for a week it would be cheaper to buy one and sell it but not enough time. As boring as it is I'd have to opt for a car if a bike cost much over £40 a day all in.

Bike Hire

just paid circa £60 day for a GS 1200 (8days) incl insurance and no mileage restriction in Cape Town SA, which i think is quite reasonable considering the bike and we will cover circa 1500 miles..........guess a car would be 1/2 that price, but, I wouldnt go for a week travelling in a car !!!

Amazing - if they can do it why not Canada. They even seem to have clause where you pay for a tow truck if needed.
