aaarrghghhh!!!

heres my problem; any help advice is appreciated!

I've started having problems with my wireless setup at home & i don't know why!!

firstly, the system was setup by myself sometime ago & worked as intended ...until a few things happended!

Firstly i have a netgear DG834PN wirless modem/router.
hard wired in to this router is a laptop & a PlayStation3...all good there.
there is also a desktop pc that connects wirelessly to the router,
I also have a iphone that wirelessly connects & recently added a PSP to the mix as well.

Now the psp can connect wirelessly to the PS3 or directly to the router. Since pairing the PSP & PS3, the wireless light on the PS3 has been on constantly (wifi on PS3 had not previously used, but the PSP can remotely switch on & access the PS3).

Anyway, it all started going wrong when i switched on the desktop (wireless) pc to update the iphone software (the first time it was used since the addtion on the PSP/PS3 mix). not long after the update of the iphone the desktop lost is connection to the router, as did the iphone.
I tried to get everything back to a known state & work from there...i deleted the PSP/PS3 partnership & switched of the wifi in the PS3, setup the router connection again & the iphone does everything itself so few settings to alter.

Wired connections to the router still have internet access (although occasionaly tempormental now) but im having serious problems restoring wireless connections.
the iphone can sometimes see the router, but cannot always connect, and sometimes cannot see it at all. When it does connect, i get no more than 3 or 4 minutes before it disconnects & can no longer see the network again.

I have been into the settings of the router (and i half suspect somebody else has been altering settings without my knowledge as in one section i had an unrecognised email login) but anyway, new passwords in place & settings restored & i still have constant fluctuations in service/connection.

The router is not obscured in anyway and the iphone is only a matter of feet away when trying to connect so theres no signal issues.
the fact i can (occassionaly) get connected suggests the majority of settings are correct!

I've updated to the latest software on the router but not much new there...

I'm stuck & don't know what try next!

sorry to waffle on but the last four hours of phaffing have got me no where!

TIA

What sort of security are you running?

Log into the router and see what's connecting- make sure there isn't some neighbour logging on and screwing things up :)

If you're still using WEP, you've probably been busted open.....there are video tutorials available that will let even a numpty crack a wep secured network....even WPAII is vulnerable but the chances of someone knowing how to do it are low.

Update your security, zero the router (and patch it if not up to date)then start from scratch again.

You don't mention a firewall but if you're running one, check that thoroughly- or disable it temporarily.

Might want to have a look at changing channels on the router. Somebody else may have put something nearby blocking the signal e.g. baby monitor, video sender, etc. etc.

Agree with Fanum, knock everything back to default (they normally have a hard reset). I then normally check everything works without security settings, then apply the security.

thank guys, i had switched off all securities & firewalls & still have the problem!
I tried connecting the PSP striaght to the router to access interweb & that worked fine.
The iphone now reguarly sees & connects to the network but when i actually try to use it for itunes or youtube (which will only wirk with wifi connection) it doesn't work!

After having further problems with online gaming on the PS3, which looks like being related to the ISP, i could be switching isp's & will more than likely go with sky, which includes a new router (similar to my existing one) - hopefully that will fix everything...

not really solving the problem, i know but the net result will be the same!
