Hi all,
Just to let you know Wilbers Suspension now do a replacement for the BMW ESA shocks.
So now you have an upgrade shock that fits directly onto the ESA system!!!! And to top it off you can have these shocks made lower for the shorter rider without affecting anything!!!
All built to order and come with a 5 year guarantee!
Beat that!
Look here - www.everyaccessory.co.uk/prod2.asp?id=290&sub_cat=770
If you need more info feel free to email me or ring us on 07814206180

Wow. Looks cool and a lot cheaper too. :D

However the web site is a bit confusing: are they replacements or rebuilds.
Sending your own shock back tends to sugest a rebuild but the individual springs tends to contradict that.

i suspect the shocks are new wilburs married to some of the BMW electronic adjuster mechanisms :nenau

Wilbers ESA

They are new shocks married to your electronic unit. we need the old shocks just for this item.
hope this helps, we think this is a very good mod as you get the best of both worlds, brillant BMW system and top notch upgraded shocks.

Give me the info off the spring first so I can see if they are set for you, then I will talk you through how to set them up.

Mind Reader!

This June, I was in the final stages of ordering a set of Wilbers for my 1150 GSA SE when I got rear ended on the way to work........

6 weeks later, the bike is fixed, sold on to another tosser and I am the proud owner of an 08, high mileage, ESA 1200 GSA.

Now showing 20k, I must admit, I was sceptical, but now am the biggest fan of the ESA.

When riding a (same age) low mileage, standard sprung, GSA.... the bike is ok. On an ESA sprung, same age, GSA, the difference is night and day..... feedback from the front is awesome.

To be honest, it did take a bit of messing about to get it right. Solo, doesn't work for my 19 stone frame. Therefore, I am now, solo, plus luggage, all the time, and it works fine.

When on a trip (solo), I am now 2 up, or 2 up plus luggage, depending on how much stuff I have with me.

The handling is, computer, perfect!

However...... in recent days, I have been really worried. I know standard shocks get "tired" after 20k or so. Therefore, I have been cacking myself at the thoughts of how much BMW will be looking for us fatties to replace the standard ESA suspension.

As for Every Accessory...... did a deal with Pete for 3 sets of tyres a few weeks ago! Top bloke! Can't wait to haggle over my new shocks, in the not, so distant, future!

Pete, are Wilbers only replacing the spring, or is the shock unit being over-hauled as well? In my case, it makes sense to have it serviced/over-hauled before I fit your, recently purchased, Heudenau tyres and head off to Gambia!

Wilbers ESA

No they are complete wilbers units, not refurbs, the old electronic unit is fitted to the wilbers units.
So you get a custom made shock built for your weight etc mated to the excellent ESA system! Best of both!

ESA

We are off to Germany on Sunday to visit the factory. Should have more info next week but cant see why not!

We're back! Been to Germany to see the ESA upgrade and test it out! The electronic part of the shock is removed and fitted to a custom made wilbers unit. These are available in standard length of 35 or 65mm lower. We built a couple of example shocks to learn how the system works.
We took a couple of demo bikes for a good test from the Wilbers factory in Germany into Holland and back!!! Quite a thorough test!
Have to say we were very impressed, especially with the 35mm lowered option.
It is for the R models first and should be all the others after Xmas.

Pete
I am off to Gambia with the Calum's Road GSers (Charidee thing on the open invite trip, section) with the 1200 GSA in 6 weeks or so...

This wilburs suspension sounds like the ticket... I am on a 21k bike, suspension still feels great @ present, but I would love to upgrade to the wilburs kit for my trip... only problem is, the trip hasn't really been costed yet... we are flying the bikes home with us... no ticket price as yet.

You can rest assured that I will need replacement shocks after the trip...... if I get a grand up on the lotto this week, you will be my first port of call...... failing that, I will give you a wee shout in the spring/summer.

BS

Not a problem! Sounds like a good trip, just drop us a line anytime and we will sort you out!
Good luck!
