What's the deal with wid camping in Spain ?

There are lots of lovely places you could throw a tent down for the night, but am I asking for trouble ?
I like the look of the lakes and dams all over the country, find a nice spot and Bob's you uncle for the night

Anyone done something similar ?
Experiences, advise and tips much appreciated.

I think you're OK (legally anyway) as long as it's not in one of the national parks. Someone with a clue will be along shortly ...

You can, I believe, wild camp for one night only up to a maximum of 4 people.
Fires are a serious 'no-no' ....last year the forest fires around my place devastated acres of pine forest and claimed the lives of some of the local 'bombers' or firemen.....very sensitive issue!
Dont worry about snakes...they will do their utmost to avoid you...just dont leave food about, this attracts rodents.....rodents attract snakes.
Check these little goodies out...perfect against all things flying, scampering and slithering...and under a tenner ....we use them all the time out there.

You dont need the cot...just a foam bed roll.

Just come back from Spain. We wild camp every year and have never had any problems. Just leave the place as you found it and no-one will complain.

Never seen a snake in Spain yet!

Shoulda gone to specsavers :D:D:D:D
I just got strange looks for laughing at the screen! :beerjug:

I don't particularly want to meet snakes.....I was lucky enough to see an adder in the UK never in Spain.....Although it appears I've been in the wrong parts! they apparently are more common in the mountains of the Pyrenees which is as it happens the area which I will be visiting next......Just hoping I don't crap my pants when/if I see one.....

I actually kept a NA water snake for 2 years....Strangely whenever it slithered on the floor I had an urge to stamp on it! when it got as thick as my arm it went to a local collector.....

once while wild camping in the Basque region of Spain I was awoken early in the morning by a pistol being pointed at my head and being shouted at allot !

After being sat in a stress position in my pants with by the way my balls spilling out down my leg but I did not want to remove my hands from my head in case they thought I was going for my "lethal weapon" !!!!!
after a while and a thorough search ! I managed to convince the 10 police /military that I was not anything to do with any terrorist group and yes actually we were just some drunk Englishman camping in the middle of nowhere !

and the pistol they had seen us with hours earlier was a water pistol and was on the floor over there !

After a lengthy discussion they said will you just feck off then I said of course we will !!!!

one of life's strange turns.

BTW, There is no law of trespass in Spain, so other than in parks, you can sleep anywhere for the night. Just be courteous if you meet anyone.

Usually no fires in el campo between mid May and mid October, and they really mean NO Fires. Be very careful with ciggie butts. Had one start a roadside fire near us and it was a raging inferno in less than five minutes.

If you are in the south of Catalunya, stop by our place for a night or two. Water, gas barby in the barn, security for bikes etc. Oh and a good bar/restaurant nearby. PB

Thanks for the offer, were on the ferry to Santander on 12th October. The plan is to get a weather report each day and follow the sunshine (Hopefully)
We've got an idea to head south between Potugal and Madrid down towards Andalucia then round towards Alicante making a loop back to Santander for 23rd Oct. I'd like to stay in land a little, just to keep away from the tourist area's and to see as much of 'real Spain' as possible. However that could change depending on what the weather treats us to.

I'll have the laptop with me, so if it looks like were heading your way I'll drop you a line :thumb2

MartinB,

You can't get much "realler" than Mas de Barberans.

Make a note of my mobile (0034) 669 859064. Best to text eta, as we are always working on the olive groves and don't have the best coverage out in the sticks.

Big steak waiting. :thumb PB

All passers-by welcome.

I am around 14 - 19 October with a couple of mates at my place which is just 30 minutes North of Pond Boy.
Havent got a steak or lock up on offer but you can camp pretty much anywhere in 20 acres of pine forest at my place and there is a font (spring water) nearby.
Can I suggest you include the little twisty from Prat de Compte to Bot on your route...its rather interesting on a bike....
PM me for moby number if you are interested.

I love camping so much. I am planing my next camping trip to Canary island. My friend suggest me to visit Lanzarote for camping holidays. This post is really informative and helps me to gather information about camping trip to Spain.

Thanks and regards
Keath

wild camping

3 of us camped up in the mountains in andulucia one night when a mates satnav took us to a camp site that had been closed for 2 years had a small camp fire then packed up early no problems.
Just layed out a ground sheet and kipped on that and left the bike almost packed but we had no visitors

I think the rule of thumb is if theres a local/landowner ask if not camp right out in the sticks and if you have a fire keep it small and dicreet.
