Will I ruin my CAT if I sink it?

I'm currently running my 1150 with just the CAT and no can, if I sink it in a ford which is sounding quite likely for tomorrow will I bugger it?
I'm thinking that they must be designed to cope with water as there is plenty of moisture in exhaust gases. It'll dry out won't it?

Had mine underwater but DONT stall the engine with the end pipe under water as the heat will suck the water up the exhaust.

Since part of what a Cat does is convert gasses into water, I'd imagine that it'd be a tad unlikely. Certainly, my well-drowned 12 suffered no ill effects.

I’d certainly recommend fitting an exhaust can to your bike for fording. If you do stall the bike in a ford, it’s not the cat that you need to worry about – it’s the engine. Water could run through the cat, up the exhaust headers and into the cylinders. When you try and restart the bike hydraulic lock will occur and something very expensive will break!

I would not go fording without an exhaust can fitted.

I take it you know this from experience? I'm sure somewhere on the planet a boxer engine has been converted into a water pump intentionally

If the cat sucks in water, it'll probably kill it. Read a car manual & there are various warnings about don't suddenly cool the cat by driving in floods. BUT, it's not an MOT item anyway.

How many miles have you done without the can then? Would this mileage include high speed thrashing at all?

About 6,000 with some occasional rag the spuds off it moments
If I was going touring or serious fording I'd put the can back on but for now I'm enjoying the sonorous tones of just the CAT + a Halfords bolt-on angle piece, good for keeping the workaday traffic awake on the cummute
