My wife & me are coming up to Winchester on Monday to visit my son who has just started university in the city, and although we have visited a couple of times by car we have not noticed any obvious bike parking spots in the city centre. Is there anyone local to the area who can let me know a good place to park for 2 or 3 hours as I'm not keen on leaving my pride & joy in a multistory car
park.

There is a bike parking area next to the road, next to the Brook Street multistorey car park - It is in view of passers by, but covered.

Other than that, I am not aware of any other bike-specific areas.
I can take a look tomorrow and let you know if there is anywhere else.

There are several surface car parks with m/c spaces but most are one space. The one I use is at the Brooks Centre Multistory. The m/c spaces (12) are outside the car park itself on street level.

Click herefor a pdf leaflet of the Winchester car parks. The easiest way into the Brooks Centre is to come off the M3 at J9 and head into Winchester on Easton Lane and into Durngate (top right of leaflet). Follow the one-way system into Union Street and next right into Friarsgate. Get into the left lane and the Brooks Centre car parK (P16) will be on the left - don't go into the car park, the bike places are further on from the entrance and are accessed from the pavement.

If you want a full list of Winchester car parks with bike places click here.

Hope this helps.

That's the one I was trying to describe - I was going to look it up today.

There is a car park next to the Council Offices at the back of the Catherdral that has a free to park area for bikes in one corner, and at the moment (at least when I last asked) you can park a motorcycle in resident parking bays without a permit, that is if you can find a space:thumb
