Hi,

My wife has an Acer laptop that was running Windows 7 and then upgraded to Windows 10. It was all working fine but now it will not connect to any networks - either on Wifi or even cabled back to the router. The lights flash on the laptop as if it is connected to the LAN but nothing happens. It won't even tether to a mobile phone.... It seems to say there is a problem with the IP configuration but nothing has changed since last week when it was working fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Nigel

Hi Nigel, this happened to mine only last week. The way I corrected it was to use 'system restore'. No problems since. Worth a try.
Simon.

There was a win 10 update pushed out that broke networking for some users. They've issued a fix but you'll need to get online to get it :D

As Slime Bomb said try rolling back to prior the last update and then try connecting again. If that works all the necessary patches should be downloaded.

There is a dns server virus that disables networking on wifi laptops try downloading malewarebytes using an Ethernet cable from your router plug straight into the laptop go for the free version and trial scan the comp. It takes about an hour and will remove any malware or viruses it finds. Send me a pm if you struggle to sort it. Gary

I can't connect by pluging straight in to the router either....

Thanks for the advice chaps I will have a look when I get home tonight.

Nigel

Download malewarbytes to a Memory stick via another comp then install from the memory stick it sounds more like a virus preventing connection.

If you are on BT or plus net then it is probably the well publicised windows update bug. Plenty info out there to get it sorted as well as a new patch from Microsoft.

Ran a virus check - maleawarebytes and it all seems to be back to normal.

Thanks

Nigel

Nigel did you see the dns virus in the log of results, just for my info as I have had two more fetched in since Tuesday, Gary

Sorry I did not look to hard as I left it running while we were doing dinner for children. Discovered as well that AVG had not been running which might be were it came from....
