Does anyone recognise the following pop up message that I keep getting on my screen.

" svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created."

Having a real pain in the arse time with the computer at present and spend more time 'restarting' etc than doing anything else.

If this is a serious issue; ie something that a computer clutz is not going to be able to sort out easily is there anyone in the SW London area that can be reccomended to bltz this machine before I have an accident & have to make a claim!

Cooperman.

Computer Clutz with less hair than I woke up with!!!

You have most likely been infected by the MSBLAST virus. you need to download a virus cleaner. try www.antivirus.com and after you've cleaned ur machine , get the patch from microsoft
to stop u getting infected again. Or do it the other way round.
patch is available from www.microsoft.com/security its technical id is MS03-026 and every major corporate company have been kakin their pants over this all week. PS as so many PC's have got it, it shafts the internet from time to time... when it trys to attack Microsofts update site. search google for msblast.

ps its not a difficult virus to remove its just very annoying for company networks (and Microsoft)

Win 2000 Issues

Ian

I will check that out as soon as I am able to get the computer to go to additional pages on a web site...hope that makes sense?...Issue is I will log on to the ....say GS Club front page & then click the link for the "forums" page and have no joy, end up having to type in the full url in the adress box at the top of the page.

Anyone tell me how to correct this.

Cheers
Mike

Mike, sounds like you have a Virus... probably as Iain says the Blaster that is going round at the moment, it does effect 2K PC's. get your self aome anti virus software, Symantec etc, and a Firewall, BlackIce is a good one. This should sort out your problems.

Once you've cleaned the virus and installed a firewall you should goto https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and scroll down the page till you find the button marked "common ports". It's a bit hard to spot at first, but it will test your firewall. All the ports should be reported as "stealth". If not, then follow the text on what to do next.

This is an excellent site for testing.

Regards,

Roy.
