We have just replaced 4 workstations at work and the CE wants to give the old workstations to worthy causes.

I have wiped and reformatted the hard drives but have no OS. There is a COA for each workstation for Windows 2000 Professional but no sign of the original OS disks. We do have disks for the replaced Office 2003 but need the OS first.

I can find downloads for the service packs but not for the original software.

Does anyone have, or know where I can download, a copy of the software please?

I know whoever we give the machines to may wish to buy XP or Vista, or use existing licences, but it would be nice to have a legal OS on the machines when we hand them over.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers :beerjug:

I very much doubt if you can legally download WIN2K or indeed any other Microsoft product. As far as I know, any WIN2K disc will install with your COA codes but finding one could be a problem. I have an install disk which would presumably copy easily but it's an upgrade rather than a new installation (in other words you need to put a WIN95/98/NT4 disk in as part of the install procedure). Once you have WIN2K installed, downloading updates is easy as Microsoft still support it, although for how long is open to question. Would installing something like Ubuntu be an alternative. It comes with FireFox for internet access, an email client that looks very much like Outlook Express and OpenOffice wordprocessor and spreadsheet (reckoned to be compatable with MS Office applications). Its free from http://www.ubuntu.com/
