Windows uninstall files

Whilst looking for a file in windows I noticed there were several files with similatr names eg. $NTuninstallKB81777$

I think they may be from when I update windows which I do on a fairly regular basis (ie Once every fortnight or so). Is it safe for me to delete these or do they contain all the windows update stuff??

They contain the "backup" versions of amended files - I can't remember when I last tried to uninstall a Windows Update, so if I'm ever looking for space I delete them.
