Windows XP problem

I`ve been happy with XP up tp now but I`ve encountered a prob.
The web browser and system restore fail to initialise. I get the `windows encontered a problem and will now close`. So I cant restore from an earlier date either. I`ve searched the MS web site and tried to start restore from the command line in safe mode but it still wont start.......any suggestions?

I`ve re-installed XP and it seems to have fixed it....whoopee no more trying to type on the wifes tiny laptop keyboard

When that happened to mine........I ended up having to re-format..

Yes I found that odd especially when it told me it was going to take between 60 and 90 minutes....not complaining though.

Sounds like it did a repair rather than a re-install, I like the idea of that.

XP PROBLEM

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AFTER DOWNLOADING BITTORRENT THAT CAME WITH ALL SORTS OF RUBBISH & AFTER UNINSTALLING IT ENCOUTRED NUMEROUS PROBLEMS INCLUDING THE ONE MENTIONED. I WAS ADVISED TO DOWNLOAD A PROGRAMME CALLED HIJACK THIS & POST THE RESULTS UP ON THE WEBUSER FORUM I WAS ADVISED TO RESCAN & GET RID OF DIFFERENT THINGS FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOW A LOT MORE THAN ME ABOUT THE THINGS & IT WAS FIXED NO MORE CANNOT DO SYSTEM RESTORE.
DONT KNOW IF YOUR PROBS WILL BE THE SAME BUT ITS A VERY GOOD PROGRAME TO HAVE ANYWAY TRY THIS ADDRESS ITS A VERY HANDY SITE FOR DOWNLOADS.

dunno what bittorent client you had that caused so much grief?

i use shadows client here. no spyware or malware.

said it before, but might bear repeating: for serious ups, when system restore fails, you really can't beat having a ghost image of your HDD to fall back on. complete reinstall with all progs and personal settings, 20 mins
