There has been somethings going missing from the office at weekends - I have been given the onerous task of getting and setting up a 'spy on the wall' - is there such a thing as a wireless webcam thingy? :nenau.
Not got much of a budget either.

I will do a bit of surfing - but has anyone had experience of a system that might meet our needs?

Edit - should be able to record a weekends worth on a laptop if possible.

These are all worth a look - but someone here has questioned the legality of it - would the office cleaners be happy if they found out that they were been taped?

Dummy Camera

If you have a limited budget, why don't you put up a dummy camera. It should scare potential thieves away!

One of the shopping channels on SKY TV has a little spy camera.
www.max.tv Phone number 08450702571.

This little beauty works off a 9 volt battery or mains. All parts included in kit.
I believe there is a sendr unit to send pics to a recording device.

Worth a look.I haven't actually looked on the site but have seen the item several times advertised on TV.

The signals from wireless cameras are often very easy to find and intercept, given the right equipment. The tealeaves can use your own cameras to find out when nobody's around, making their lives easier.

Also, don't forget that wireless is a lot more jammable - with a wired camera you have to get to the wire and a well planned setup would require an attacker to be seen before cutting wires. With wireless, you might be able to jam it from many feet away.

Right now, I'd be happy with a camera that worked over IP, as long as you used WPA (not WEP) and a right barsteward of an access code, as long as there were some wired cameras around as well.

However, YMMV and all that, so don't blame me if you still get robbed :)

Software for webcams

I have passed on the details of a couple of covert spy cams that Maplin sell.

Is there software that can be used with any bog standard web cam that would
have the following features - motion detection and time lapsed image recording on to a laptop.

(Believe it or not I work in IT :o)

just get the cleaner in a head lock then water board them for 10 hours with a few hose pipe beatings to break up the tedium. perhaps a few mock executions..:thumb

they'll soon cough to being santa with treatment like that....:D

crime solved jobs a carrot back to drinking coffee....:thumb2

It may not be a cleaner :augie

I found a cheap webcam on Amazon (with night vision) for under a tenner - cripes this stuff is cheap. There is some freeware (free !!) called Yawcam (www.yawcam.com) - that looks like its worth trying out.

trust it'll be the cleaner.....:augie

well they'll cough to it :thumb2

I can always a arrange a postumous pardon for the cleaner and start on the butler next... with the pliers and a blow torch....:thumb

The solution

This combination will do the trick - the DVR plugs into any pc (but not with Vista) - the cams have a wireless receiver.

Swann USB Digital Video Recording Surveillance System
manuf part # SW241-UD4-31000
Swann BlackKnight - Pro' CCD Wireless Day/Night Colour
manuf part # SW233-BKY-27020

Have checked with Swann and they are compatible and not a bad price really.
