I've just received my HID kit. I founda right place to fit ballast and starter (behind the roght plastic part of the fuel tank) but I wonder if it's possible to access the lamp without to make a whole in the plastic part of the light. On the original mount of the lamp, wires comme from behind the light and the plastic part to access the lamp has no hole on it and I'd like to leave it like that...
Best regards.

Drilling the cap is by far the neatest and easest option. Just buy a couple of new caps when you revert back to std when you sell the bike, they are only 2.26 plus VAT each anyway, UK prices of course.:thumb2

The BMW part number is 63127674984

Plus, to be honest I would be inclined to carry a spare cap and a H7 bulb on a long trip anyway in case either the burner or the ballast stopped working. At least then you revert it back to a std bulb by the side of the road in a couple of minutes to get you going again. :clap

Just drill\modify the access caps (the ones to change the lamps). That way you only need to replace 2 cheap plastic caps if you want to revert back to standard.:thumb

Yes I know that but the only difference is to access the lamp and it allways let you to reverse to original socket and lamp. I find the wires that come out the plastic not aesthetic...

Why bother carrying a spare, if the HID burns out just swop the main for the dip.

It's no real stress riding with only dip beam.

Anyway, to access the original wires, I think I have to disassemble the front light. Does anybody allready tried?

You can't.
The headlight is a sealed unit, the only entry is via the Access caps. Unless you want to break the headlight and try to clue is all back together

Hid fitting

I fitted a set of 35 watt HIDS to the GS which are advertised as CAN bus compatible. however after fitting and firing up the dip beam I had a bulb failure Alarm on my display.
Dip beam was working fine but for some reason the Main beam would not work, I tried using the auxilary relay supplied with the kit and this has now got the main beam working.
Light output is nothing short of amazing and worth the effort.
To revert back to normal after drilling the headlamp caps just get a couple of blind grommets from maplins to fill the holes.

I get the odd bulb failure alarm, maybe once every30 times the bike is started, just switch of and restart, sorted

Hid fitting

Funnily enough this same kit was fitted to my 05 GS and it worked as advertised with no problems or alarms on panel but when I swapped it to my new 07 bike it generated a bulb failure alarm which comes on every time I start the bike ?.
Would be nice if we could modify settings in the can bus system to stop these alarms coming on the display module.:nenau
