I'd be grateful for any advice from electrical gurus on the following ...

I'm changing my sat nav from a Nav III to a Zumo 660. Being the BMW model, the power wire for the Nav III was very conveniently fitted with a 2 pin bullet type connector which could be piggy-backed on the back of an accessory socket. Great - no wiring required! Unfortunately, the Zumo 660 simply has a bare positive and negative wire for DIY wiring.

What I'd like to do is use the connectors from the Nav III power wire on the Zumo 660. This would mean uncrimping the positive and negative wires from the connectors, and re-crimping in the new wires.

Is this possible to do with bullet connectors? And, if so, is there a better tool to uncrimp than simply 'attacking' with a small screw driver to try to open the crimped connections?

I've attached a picture of the piggy-back accessory wire and connectors I'm talking about, and looking to reuse.

Cheers

I think that if you try to un-crimp and then re-crimp the bullet connector you will find that they are knackered. If you want to reuse the connectors, I would cut the wires about two inches from the connector and join those to the wires on the 660. Solder the joint, and seal with heat shrink tubing.

I fitted a plug to my 660 and plug it into the accessory socket on my 1100RT, or on my 850GS.

One tip - my 660 had a fuse holder fitted to the positive wire, and the joint between the main harness and the fuse holder wire was very poorly made - it came apart before I had fitted it to the bike. Have a good look at yours and if you have any doubts, repair it before it breaks.
