Hi All

just had my Zumo 550 delivered from Global Gizmos and am waiting for Michel at Migsel to send me the RAM mount for the R1200GS.

Meantime i`m itching to do something with it. Can anyone advise if I just run the supplied power connector (which has bare wires and an inline fuse) straight to the battery or do I need to do something clever, other than adding some spade connectors to the bare wires obviously :-)

Any assistance much appreciated, don`t want to blow anything up in my enthusiasm. :augie

best option IMO is to get the proper bmw plug and use the gps supply bmw left tucked up by the headstock.

there's a sticky about this in the 1200 section.

Why dont you use the standard RAM mount that comes with the ZUmo?

hi, i just wired mine straight to the battery so it would stay powered up with the ignition key out, everytime i stoped before the bloody thing would switch itself off after 30 seconds but nows its straight to the battery its good it stays on when you are at petrol stations etc

Cheers all, I reckon I`ll go straight to the battery, I`ve had a look about the advrider site and just like here it`s a split, GPS mount on the headstock or the battery, the idea of it remaining on after the ignitions off appeals to me. I`ll just need to remember to power it off manuall y :-)

Bengaz, have you actually mounted it using the C clamp thing which comes with the Zumo. I tried that but it seemed a bit cumbersome, mind you yours looks a hell of a lot neater than mine was looking, plus yo`uve obviously added some padding for the clamp to grip to rather than straight to the metal of the GS screen bar.

Each to their own but IMHO that's a good feature, you only have to press any button for it to remain on after the 30 seconds have elapsed. With an internal battery that should last for 4 hours fiddling around with your GPS whilst parked up shouldn't be a problem. When you turn on the ignition with the GPS off it'll power up as soon as do so. It makes the installation feel more integrated and professional to boot.

Having a switched feed should help to preserve the contacts on the mount from electrolytic corrosion that, wired to the battery, will be literally live all the time, even parked in your garage.
