Hi,

I got a '99 1150 recently. It doesn't seem to like to go into first from neutral. The indicator says "1", but when I try to pull away I find I'm still in neutral. I've tried blipping the throtle in neutral which usually, but not always helps, or moving the bike a little in neutral, which does work, but is a pain in the butt.

Is this a normal thing? Is it a sign of impending major failure (repair bill)?

I'd be grateful for any clues.

Thanks.

Mo

Help will be along shortly,
BUT If I remember correctly, it is usually a bit of crap in the linkage..

take apart, clean, lubricate and reassemble

They all do that sir

And damned embarassing it can be, sometimes helps to strip down ball joint linkages on gear change mechanism & relubricate as has a tendency to dry out.

Sounds more like new to BMW ownership syndrome - unused to a dry single plate clutch. :augie

Have a look at a previous post thread by steptoe here

If yer feeling brave just hold few rev's on and give the gear lever a good prod with the clutch lever half way out :D

(no don't really:D :D )

Thanks

Thanks guys. Will try to learn the subtle art of BMW gear shifting. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a major failure on the horizon.

they all do that sir, roll it forward a tad whilst gently proddong the gear lever, it will go in, also fit decent quality ie castriol gearbox oil, mine is pain when cold, but fine when warm, even tried slick 50, no difference, it's just the way it is, straight cut box and a dry clutch.
happy days
