Won't start - or anything else- 1200GSA 07

I promise I have done a search and all it did was frighten me!!

Bear in mind this is Africa and computers on bikes cause eyeballs to roll in to back of head....

Had the 1200 GSA (07) for 3 weeks. Lovely bike. No problems.
Stopped at the shops. Back on bike. Key in. Panel flickers like mad with display on and off. Settles down. Dull click when I press the starter. Check Battery connections. All OK. Key out. Key in. Long wait of 10 -20 secs. Panel display comes on as normal. Dull click on starter press.
Call ex BMW Chief Mechanic who runs his own place. "Welcome to the world of 1200 GSAs," he says.
"What's the matter?" I ask.
"Dunno!" he says. "Try jump starting it"
Try that. Bike now goes click-click click but naff all else. Then "Argh!!" EWS comes up on screen!!!! "Argh!" I think."Don't know what that means but past forum reading indicates "Shock! Horror! Gasp!" Wise forum writers says it is ferked! Now what?

Bike placed on back of pick up and taken to doctors for health check tomorrow.

Would like Smiles that shows me lying on the floor in tears!

Given what you've said i'd opt for a goosed battery first. If it was the EWS you wouldn't get a click at all when you pressed the starter.

Try charging the battery up for a bit and try it again.

Exact same symptoms happened to a friend of mine. Battery replaced and bike started first time.

Had not found your thread during my search. That must have been the most horrendous night waiting for the dawn to come and no idea what was wrong with the bike!

Battery failed to respond to a charge. I hope that is good news!

Now hunting for another battery.

Will update. Keeping everything crossed for a while longer!

morale of the story: if in Africa, buy a Honda! a no-electrics early 90's CB500,transalp with spike tyres and you are sorted...

Modern BMW's are for europe (just)... Its a bit like Ferrari cars: Need 17-22C , 40-60% humidity, they won't work south of Rome or north of Munich..!

S'funny i hired a transalp the other year. Worst piece of shit i've ever had the misfortune to ride. Rather fukcin walk!!
