Word: Help please ... QUICK

Euan wrote his homework on word 2003 last week and didnt save it to the laptop but to his memory stick. He has just gone to print it off and its all in weird text

Trippy. Does the document show up OK on sceen? If so, it may be an issue that the printer isn't able to print the particular font. try changing that if possible to a more 'basic' font (say arial?).

Have you tried saving it to the computer instead and opening it again?
Also have you tried your temporary folder? It may still be in there or there may be enough to salvage and he'll just have to do the last bit again?

Have a look on the stick for some hidden, weirdly named files starting with the tilde symbol (~) on the stick. You will have to have show all files on in the folder settings ie: display hidden and system files. They will have a funny extension as well and are Word's backup files. Just rename these with the '.doc' extension and open in Word. you might get at least 90% of the file in one of them or all of it. Never work from the stick or save files direct to the stick from Word as I was only asked about the same problem last week by another friend.
