After 6000 miles, when my genuine BMW pads were half worn, the lining decided to leave the backing plate. First sign I got was no back brake followed by a nasty grinding noise as metal hit metal!

It is possible that this can happen to any manufacturers pads. Rainbow, however, replaced the pads free of charge (I didn't buy them there) and did a full rear brake inspection under warranty. Luckily there was no damage to the caliper or disc but would I have got this service if I'd put EBC pads in?

I've had the same problem twice with oem pads, I now have ferodos and they seem to be ok.

mbw pads are well known for doing this, moisture gets inbetween the friction material and backing plate and causes the friction pad to fall off, mostly happens to bikes left outside & bikes that are washed a lot and put back in the garage- use your brakes hard, drys off any moisture;

Pads

Try EBC HH (available from Motorworks). Excellent pads. Serious stopping power. They can be a bit hard on discs though but they really do stop you - quickly.

EBC HH, excellent in all conditions. Gives a bit more feel/initial bite with ABS models. Used them for 30,000 miles, well recommended. :D

I've currently got the EBC's on as MPS didn't have the new pads for the evo's at the time. As a direct comparrison with the oe, there's not much in it, though i do slightly prefer the original setup. I recently contacted MPS for some led bulbs and enquired about the Brembos for evo systems (yes i know they're badged mbw, but they're made by Brembo). They have placed an order (had to set up a new account) as they said the pads are now available. I've ordered a set, in the hope they're the correct fitment, for 18 quid a pair, far cheaper than wot Mr MBW charges and about the same as the EBC HH's.
I'll let you know if they're the right fitment when they arrive, as it's a new line they'll be about six weeks for delivery. Once everyone starts to order on a more regular basis they'll keep them in stock for immediate delivery!:)

only £15 from me, £12 for the earlier models ---- check the GS'ers discount thread
