Would you change the standard exhaust on an 1100?

I've got a Wilbers shock coming for my 1100 to give it a slightly sportier edge in the bends.

Question is, will a change of exhaust make any positive difference. A reduction in weight would be useful but poor running wouldn't.

What options have you tried and did they work?

I'm hankering after a bit more excitment but cannot see another bike to match the GS so looking at ways to add a bit of extra to it.

Any exhaust would need to be relatively legal -ish.

A free-er breathing pipe will work better with a de-restricted intake snorkel and reduced length inlet trumpets.

Stick a chip on it and it will be quicker revving, sound better, use more fuel and be slightly lighter and slightly quicker at the topend of the rev range.

It will also feel as though it is torquier lower down, but it is usually an illusion brought about by the noise increase.

Hi Bob, had a lazer on mine. Bought from this site very cheaply.

Looks: better than original
Sounds: loud
Performance: I could not tell the difference
Economy: same same
Weight: lots lighter

unless you pick one up from here, I would not bother

Was this with the cat in place or removed?

Does the fuelling require adjustment to notice any change or wil they compensate enough without?

Your right though, I would spend much unless the change was a real improvement or drop in weight/improvement in looks.

the standard one is really well made, just looks a tad bulky.

My bike had no Cat just the big box underneath followed on by the silencer. I fitted with no re jetting or whatever and went for about 40000 KMs without burning a hole in my exhaust valves. I honestly reckon the only improvement in performance was that it sounded more grunty, so you'd be more inclined to give it some more of the right hand...
